IHU Powder was one of 8 players that was invited to play in Heroes of the Cards #3. His group was made up of Ekop, Kolento and RDU and first matchup was against Kolento. Powder had recently lost to Kolento in the Seat Story Cup #2 in game 5 to a topdeck that ended his run in that tournament.
His first match against Kolento ended in a 1-3 loss, putting Powder’s back up against the wall. He would need to win 2 more matches in order to move on to the next phase. After preparing for RDU overnight and having to keep the same decks, Powder was able to win this match 3-2. His day was not over yet, after Kolento lost 0-3 to Ekop; Powder would need to play Kolento again. This time the Swede was triumphant and beat his rival, Kolento, 3-2!
Powder was on to the next day where he play against Savjz who had beat Lothar 3-1 and Sjow 3-1. Unfortunately Powder was unable to win this match and lost 2-3, due to a disconnect in the last game. This would mean he would go on to face Lothar who had just to Ekop 1-3. Powder would go on to win 3-0 and move into the final day.
The last day of the event would come down to Powder facing Savjz who lost to Ekop 0-3. Powder had his chance to win this game and prove he belonged in the finals. He took an early lead with Miracle vs Handlock, an unfavorable matchup and went on to win the match 3-1. He would now move to the Grand Finals where he would have to beat Ekop who had not dropped a match the entire series.
Ekop hadn’t lost a game with his Zoo deck or his Priest deck and was looking to keep his undefeated record in tact and hoped not to have to lean on his Warrior deck. Powder opened Priest and Ekop opened Zoo, the favorite in this game was Powder, but due to terrible draws and the Zoo deck running well, Powder fell behind and would continue to lose until he met Ekop’s Zoo with his own Zoo. Powder was the first and only to eliminate Ekop’s Zoo! The momentum had begun to change in the favor of Powder, but Ekop answered with his own Priest deck. And after drawing both his Circle of Healing’s and both of his Auchenai Soul Priest’s it was over for Powder. He would now have to win out with his last deck, his druid deck.
Powder was not to be beaten so easily, he took game 5 very fast with his Druid deck eliminating Ekop’s perfect performance with his Priest deck and forced the German into a mirror matchup. Powder went on to win this game as well tieing the series 3-3. It was up to Ekop to stop Powder from coming back and winning the tournament with his Warrior deck, that was not seen the entire tournament. Unfortunately Powder was unable to draw Innervate or Wild Growth and was defeated 3-4 in the Grand Finals.
We asked Powder to give us his thoughts on the Tournament and the last match vs Ekop.
Powder: “I am very happy with the results from this tournament. Especialy due to the group that I got put in. I dont think many people thought I was going to do very well considering the players I was matched up against. It was great to show the world how strong of a player I am. I am very happy to take 2nd place, but falling at the finish line in game 7 is a hard pill to swollow. I guess this was Ekop’s tournament and I want to congratulate him on his win.
I really enjoyed this type of format. Having groups is always better than single elimnation. Having the double elimination bracket allowed me to take another shot at Savjz, which I was very happy about.
I want to thank my Fans and my team. I couldn’t have done it without your support. I want to thank our sponsors at IHearthU: Kinguin, Waypoint Media and Nerdsie. I had a great time and I look forward to representing team IHearthU at DreamHack Winter. “
