The Meta Report #7

It is a new season and everyone has been reset to a CHICKEN! It is time to put on your grinding gear and once again start working your way down the ladder. Watch out, because you’re going to see cards you haven’t seen since you played the Inn Keeper as you plow your way through the new players and down the ladder.
Here’s Team DKMR‘s weekly meta ranking. Keep in mind, it’s about which classes and archetypes are played the most, not about which are the strongest. Most of the time, the strongest decks will also be the most frequently played, but that’s part of how the meta works.
Warlock is not interested in relinquishing his crown anytime soon and is still seeing the most play out of any of the classes. This is because Warlock Aggro is notably one of the fastest ways to climb the ladder. Warlock is a very versatile class that offers both the ability for strong Aggro decks and powerful Control decks. So be prepared for either Warlock when mulliganing.
Druid has been one of the most seen classes in constructed Hearthstone, and it continues to be. The recent trends for Druids seem to remain the same. The 3 Druids we are seeing are: Standard Druid, Watcher Druid and Tokens Druid. There doesn’t seem to be a bad matchup for Druid and people are not creating decks around Druid on the ladder; Giant Warlock is one of the only decks that give Druid problems. We have also seen a few Druids playing Starfall and double Shield Master instead of the Savage Roar plus Force of Nature combo to help combat the Aggro decks.
Hunter still has a lot of flavor and especially after the ladder reset, a lot of people are playing this class. Faceroll Aggro is one of the most annoying decks to play against and one of the easiest/fastest ways to get wins so it will continue to be played. Just keep the Unleash the Hounds combo in mind while playing against them. Midrange hunter decks have seemed to die out.
Shaman starts to move up the list this week. Shaman is trying to bring a beatdown on the Aggro. Shaman has been known for having a lot of outs against some of the more aggressive decks because of cards like Lightning Storm, Feral Spirit, Stormforged Axe and all of the low cost removal cards. Also on multiple occasions we have seen the Injured Blademaster plus Ancestral Healing combo, which grants a 4/7 taunt for only 3 mana!
Warrior has fallen down the ranks this week and seems to be much more control these days. The Aggro warrior has died out, but there are a few still lingering in the current meta. An early fiery war axe and armorsmith seem to be strong plays. With this in mind take note that playing Warrior Control can be a great way to counter these Aggro decks while SLOWLY climbing the ladder.
Rogue continues to not see as much play and currently runs 2 versions, the miracle and the standard. The miracle Rogue is still very strong and played in tournaments. The standard rogue is making a comeback as it has a very good matchup against all of those Aggro Warlocks, however a very weak matchup against Hunter. An early Si7 combo or an early backstab will allow them to gain significant board presence efficiently and take control of the game.
Priest has grown a lot in popularity since ERA made it to legend last season but, remains at the bottom of the Mete Report due to it’s inability for players to handle it’s awkwardness and how slow the deck runs. The problem with priest is its ability to gain back board control. Without an early board, a Priest must rely on a big circle of healing play or a great holy nova to gain back board presence. An early injured blade master into a circle of healing is always difficult for every class to deal with and tends to bait out a lot of big removal.
Mage is one of the least played classes, it is an interesting class that can be tailored for late game or early game. Mage is underutilized in its anti Aggro matchup, but has grown in popularity since last season due to some significant streamers making it to legend with a mage deck. A good flamestrike can bring anyone back into the game. Polymorph is a tinkmaster on steroids as it always gives the one/one.
Paladin is sparsely used and in a lot of trouble. The Aggro version has died out despite a few people still playing it. The control Paladin tends to give way to better control decks. This does not mean that Paladin is not strong though. Paladin divine shield decks can still sneak games off of any player. It is also underutilized against Aggro as it has a healthy supply of efficient heals in lay on hands and guardian of kings. An equality combined with pyromancer as well as a consecration are some of the most efficient board clears in the game.
Deck of the Week: Standard (Aggro) Hunter
This deck is fast and dangerous. Although it is not favored against most control decks, it can sneak a win in here and there. Be prepared to climb the ladder at an extreme pace! Utilize Unleash the Hounds and Starving Buzzard to replenish your hand and dominate your opponent.
