OGN Hearthstone Invitational Recap

The Quarter Finals of the OGN Hearthstone Invitational continued tonight with two titans continuing their rivalry; Dogehouse’s Dan “Artosis” Stemkoski vs. Liquid Value’s Trump. With both teams feeling the pressure and Twitch Chat going crazy the stage was set for a phenomenal series.
Game One

Both Artosis and Trump opened the series with Control Warrior and mirror Pagle openings. Luck was against Trump as he missed four consecutive draws while Dan’s managed to consistently fish. Going into the game with such a strong card advantage gave Artosis the ability to deal with a number of Trump’s gambles to retake control of the board and reverse momentum. Unfortunately RNG continued to fail Trump when his Tinkmaster turned Alextrasza into a 5/5 which forced him to trade his Grommash for the token.
A glimmer of hope materialized when Trump managed to establish board control with Ragnaros and Alexstrasza, clearing Artosis’ Baron Geddon in the process. That hope was shattered by a Brawl into Ragnaros which ended any illusions of a comeback and the game itself. Unfortunately it seems that the recent patch didn’t come soon enough to save Trump against Artosis tonight.
Game Two

The second game saw Gerrard the Head Coach of Prime make his Hearthstone debut facing off against GoRush. Gerrard mulligan’d into a rough starting hand early with his Mage deck (which Artosis and Savjz counseled him against using) while GoRush’s Aggressive Warlock deck seemed to stifle any chance Gerrard had of establishing a tempo or presence. Facing an enemy with a strongly established board, Gerrard chose to inefficiently expend a Fireball against a Knife Juggler. Unfortunately for the coach of Prime, this was not enough to save him and the game quickly went downhill from there as GoRush took a decisive turn seven victory.
Ace Match

With the score now tied at 2-2, Savjz and Hafu were chosen to face off in the ace match. OGN’s format dictates that both players use the same deck they used previously with no adjustments made which meant the final game would be Shaman vs. Druid. Despite some less than ideal draws, Savjz took board control first with an Unbound Elemental and totems while managing to take down Hafu’s Violet Teacher immediately at the expense of some of his life. Unfortunately it was short lived as Hafu took a commanding lead with a well placed Bloodmage Thalnos + Swipe combo which earned her board control. Things began to look grim for Savjz until a Lightning Storm + Spellpower Totem cleared Hafu’s minions and paved the way for a masterful comeback. A Fire Elemental buffed with a Flametongue Totem, Rockbiter Weapon and Windfury sealed Hafu’s fate, giving Giants the win over Big Game Hunters in an entertaining night of OGN Hearthstone!

nice read. There was also a critical move where Hafu Double savage roared to fully clear Shaman’s board with some frog totems using up two critical spells in the process. Clever move but maybe the play that lost her the game.
I like seeing everybody all dressed up, but it must have been hot under those lights. I think the vod’s are only on their twitch channel and they are subtitled in english.
