The Meta Report #40
Sponsored by: Gunnar | 2P.com | Waypoint Media
We’re changing up the format of the Meta Report a little this week! Check out this week’s rankings to the right and a discussion of the meta below. Keep in mind that DKMR’s weekly meta rankings are about which classes and archetypes are played the most, not about which are the strongest. Most of the time, the strongest decks will also be the most frequently played, but that’s not always the case. That’s just part of how the Meta works.
ATTACKING THE TOP
Hunter has been on top of the meta on and off for a while now, and for good reason! As you can see on the chart below, Hunter has few truly unfavorable match-ups. So how do you beat it? A popular option has been to play Priest. A Priest control deck using Wild Pyromancer and Shadow Madness has arguably one of the best match-ups versus popular builds of Hunter. Decks like Warrior, Shaman, and Mage can also be teched to have stronger Hunter match-ups. For example, while the recently popular double Doomhammer Shaman deck is very weak to Hunter, playing more standard Shaman midrange builds can be very strong against Hunter. With many Hunters cutting Unleash the Hounds and with the loss of Starving Buzzard, Hunter has a much harder time recovering from a well-placed Earth Shock or a well-timed Feral Spirit.
Warrior in particular has seen a recent spike in popularity due to its use by popular streamers and its strong Hunter match-up. Cards like Cleave, Armorsmith, and Fiery War Axe give it some of the strongest options for dealing with aggressive decks. In fact, it’s particularly noteworthy that many of the decks that have recently risen in popularity are those with some of the best answers to Undertaker. Another one of Warrior’s strengths is that, much like the Priest’s hero power, Armor Up gives the Warrior a way to recover in the mid to late game.
If you find yourself struggling against Hunter on the ladder, we recommend trying out Priest or Warrior control decks. Alternatively, you can tech out your favorite class with cards particularly adept at removing a turn one Undertaker.
Deck of the Week: Chakki’s Shaman
Today we will take a look at one of the decks that Savjz played at SeatStory Cup 2. The deck was originally ran by Chakki, and consisted of a unique card selection in 2 Doomhammers. Shaman was considered one of the weaker classes, but with the recent successes it is now a major contender for one of the top classes in Hearthstone.
