So, based upon my last article, Decision Making for Beginners, you should now have a basic idea on the decision making involved in finishing up games in Hearthstone.

But with all these excellent guides emerging, you may not have the required cards to jump into these decks and try them for yourselves. Right now, the only ways to get cards is to either to pay up for card packs or disenchanting already existing cards.

So, the cheapest way to get a jump start on your deck building is to earn some quick gold. Let’s do that, shall we? It might relieve some of that pressure that’s been building up on your wallet!

Disclaimer: Spending money for 40 packs is a great way to get your start in Hearthstone, as you won’t be as card starved in the beginning, but if your wallet is empty, read on!

Defeat the AI

It may sound slow, and it may sound tedious, but, defeating all the AI unlocks not only all the Heroes for you to use, but also awards you Ready to Go, which awards you 100 gold! Also after defeating all the AI with a single Hero (let’s say Mage), you should be close to level 10, if not already level 10. Once you hit 10 on your first Hero, swap to a new one, because you should of unlocked Level Up, which gives you a free card pack! Defeating AI is doable with only the basic cards, but there’s another hidden reason to switch.

After you defeat the Beginner AI, you unlock the Expert AI. Don’t be fooled, cards are still cards! But a run of a level 1 Hero, defeating all of the Expert AI, will hit that Hero to level 10. Defeating the Experts awards you Crushed Them All!, which is another 100 gold in your pocket!

If you rinse and repeat this process for each Hero, and they’re all level 10, you will get an additional achievement of Got the Basics!, which is another 100 gold.

You are now ready for Arena!

Arena

Do the Arena as quick as you can, because you will be awarded one free Arena ticket that waives the cost to enter. If you’ve been balking, then now is the time to take the plunge! Arena can award you the following:

- Arcane Dust (for crafting cards!)
- Gold sacks (for more Arenas!)
- Gold cards (yay for disenchanting!)
- Card packs

This is the standard list of things to expect in an Arena. If you end up 0-3, don’t expect much - likely dust and a pack of cards. But if you can get even a win under your belt, the reward increases just that much more!

Now, the idea of doing an Arena right off the bat has even more rewards, due to unlockable one-time achievements! Doing an arena will, in addition to the possible rewards above, award you:

  • First Blood, which is a free card pack!
  • The Duelist, which is 100 gold!

Note: you can do these in regular Play mode as well, if you want to do those before Arena, but they will have no bearing on your Arena run.

Now, after you finish the Arena, you’ll have a guaranteed card pack. If you’ve picked a class you want to start off with, and got a card or two that you won’t be using any time soon (Wisp comes to mind), disenchant it in Crafting Mode. This will unlock another achievement, Crafting Time, that will award you an extra 95 dust!

These are really the easy to get, one day achievable boosts of gold in Hearthstone at the time of this writing. If you follow this guide, you should have all these by the end of your run:

  • 400 (or more) gold
  • 3 Card packs
  • 95 (or more) Arcane Dust

That should hopefully help you guys get kick started into your deck creation processes. Card packs usually have a bunch of commons, and minimum one rare (lucky players will get some epics or legendaries!), but you also now have at least two more Arena runs in order to start earning more cards!

Stretch Goals

There is still life after your first achievements. Doing daily quests every day will award you gold, as well as every 3 wins in Play Mode gives you another 10 gold! Sometimes the stars align, and you can stack your dailies and do them simultaneously for even bigger boosts.

There are also gold rewards for 100 wins and 1000 wins right now as well, and both award 300 gold each! So if you battle in Play Mode, and get 100 wins, not only did you get any dailies, but (33 x 10) 330 gold from the repeatable daily.

So there are lots of ways to get some gold boosts to start you on your Hearthstone journey, but everything requires hard work and patience! So get started! That gold is just waiting to be claimed!

  1. 300 gold for 100 wins and 1,000 wins is a nice chunk of change. You can also get 100 gold for beating all of the “Expert” AI decks as well (I didn’t see that mentioned, but I probably glanced over it).
