The DKMR Invitational Week 10 - Gaara vs Kisstafer & WhtPwdr
As week 10 gave the players access to the final Quarter of Naxxramas it also gave us a chance to see a true deck builder in action. This week Tempo Storms Gaara competed against DKMR Kisstafer in a BO5, with the winner playing against WhtPwdr in a BO7. You can watch these events LIVE every Thursday night at 6:30pm PST / 9:30pm EST with shoutcasters on 2P’s stream so please follow them at https://www.twitch.tv/2p_entertainment so your notified when the stream goes live!
All Naxxramas cards available:
With the Frostwyrm Lair open all of the wings of Naxxramas are now available. As predicted by Ben Brode, senior game designer of Hearthstone, we saw significant changes to the cards and deck types that were played. Hunter’s were still very popular and as we saw in previous weeks but every player chose their own flavor of Naxx cards to add to the Hunter’s arsenal. Two players have even gone so far as to remove tracking from their deck altogether.
Kel’ Thuzad, Stalagg and Feugen all made appearances in some cases giving new life previously underpowered classes like Paladin and in other cases radically changing the makeup of dominant classes like Druid. Gaara, known for innovating ramp Druid, brought a new archetype of Druid that doesn’t run any of the Force / Savage roar combo cards that were used to seeing.
Miracle Rogues gained the addition of a sticky taunt know as the Sludge Belcher as well as Loatheb to help control the game and stay alive till it can perform its miracle. While a variant on the traditional Warrior control deck has gained popularity with the addition of Death’s Bite and Unstable Ghoul. From the common starting point we see different players branch out with their Warriors, Kisstafer choose to add in Kel’ Thuzad & Loatheb while Gaara chose to play Stalagg and Feugen.
With all these changes from the last few weeks, one thing became clear this week - Once again Hunter is incredibly overpowered. In the post match interviews we also get to hear the competitors thoughts on the strength of the Hunter. The main issue that they have with Hunters is that there is no direct counter, even warrior decks as they are being constructed for tournaments are a bit too slow. There were many great matches and some really interesting new decks. Decklists will be posted in the comment section of the VOD of the event once they become available.
